Off the beaten Bangkok track, with Burgers hard to beat.

A view of Zinc 101 Bar & Grill from the street

While living at SS Condo in Sukhumvit 101/1 (between Punnawithi & Udomsuk BTS station), I walked past this bar quite a few times with my lady on my way to the market. We resisted the temptation to go in, thinking perhaps it would be a bit clique. Eventually we took the plunge, and man were we glad we did.

Where to start on the great aspects of this Bangkok bar & grill? Well, for starters as soon as we arrived and sat down, we had the guys at the bar saying hello, coming over to shake hands and introduce themselves. What a lovely bunch they were.

Then we ordered food. Absolutely amazing, first class, as good as it gets, both Thai and Western dishes. Then we met the staff, who were so attentive, kind and had that great attitude of nothing was too much trouble.

Then we met the owner Dan, and eventually his good lady Nui. Cracking people, honestly. Over the coming months, Dan would always come and sit and talk to us, not just for a minute as a lot of hosts do, but often for 15 + minutes talking over all sorts. They are two of the best hosts I have met in my 15 years in Bangkok.

Yeah, it’s a weird location, and what is even more weird is the mix of Thai and Foreign customers. I got playing pool with a few of the Thai guys, and what fabulous guys they were, not too mention bloody good players. There is something odd about this bar, in that every single patron, to a one of them is friendly, smiley, happy and outright nice.

Over the next few months I brought in a lot of my friends, who tried various food and in particular high praise from my Australian mate, who said the burger he had there was probably the best burger he has had in Bangkok. And all of this happiness, great service and hosts, delicious food at prices way below that of the more popular and well known Asoke and Nana bars. One of the big bottles of Leo for just 100 Baht.

We lived a few minutes walk away, but for those of you who want to try something very different, you might want to get a taxi or Motorbike from Punnawithi BTS as it is around 1.4 KM according to Google Maps. But if you do make the journey, awaiting you will be comfy seating, free pool, cheap beer and shots, amazing food and service and the first class friendly, real, genuine hosting.
